Sephardic Crossroads Sephardic Crossroads presents music rarely heard in Austin from the Jewish community that was forced to leave Spain and Portugal in 1492. The songs and people sought survival in places including Turkey, Greece, The Balkans, and North Africa, and eventually in North America. This music from the Middle Ages evolved to include not only the Judeo Spanish traditions, but also the flavors and styles of the countries where these populations settled. This blending of cultures has been transmitted through generations. Michelle Alany and Nefesh Joykestra will be sharing this beautiful and timeless Sephardic music, with an emphasis on songs from The Balkans and The Middle East, many of which are sung in Ladino (a Judeo- Spanish language.) All are Welcome!

and
by Magical Austin Singer-Songwriter Artist, David Garza:
“Michelle Alany is the modern embodiment & fruition of the ancient Sephardic spirit..
mysterious yet inviting-
virtuoistic while still wide-eyed-
Her enthusiasm & talent provide a free hand map to this secret crossroads of art & music..
I was unaware of the scope of this hidden cultural garden until experiencing Michelle’s passionate violin and singing. Her respect for this centuries-old music is rivaled only by her futuristic daring & vision to be found in her own Sephardic -tinged original compositions. This show is not to be missed!”
